Mike expected Homer's odyssey to last six episodes

WHEN Mike Reiss started writing for the first season of The Simpsons in 1989, he said the belief in the writers’ room was that it would last six episodes.

“Two weeks before the show came on air, I was sitting with the other writers in our trailer — the studio didn’t even have enough faith in us to give us an office — and I asked, how long do you think this show is gonna last?,” Connecticut-born Mike said.
