VOLCANO FLIGHTS CHAOS
Dash to get home for Shabbat

BROTHERS Dov and Morris Hamburger were at a trade show in Frankfurt when they realised that flight disruptions may stop them from getting home in time for Shabbat.

Morris, 58, of Broughton Park, Salford, said: “We heard about the situation and although someone had said that flights would be back on again the following day, we took matters into own hands.”

The brothers, who were also travelling with their nephew Daniel, hired a car and drove half way across Europe so they could get a ferry back to England.

“We were happy because we managed to get on a ferry at Calais on the Friday morning”, explained Morris.

And as they drove on to the ferry, the Hamburgers noticed that in the two cars in front of them were chassidim.

“They should have been in Hungary visiting the grave of a famous chassid, but got diverted,” said Morris.

The eight chassidim were delighted to meet up with the Hamburgers and said it was “Hashem’s will” that they were brought together.

Morris said: “One of the chassidim had yahrzeit so we made up a minyan and said Shacharit onboard the ferry.”

The Hamburger family managed to get back in time for Shabbat.
