ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD Amy Jo Brownson has raised an astonishing £12,500 for charity.
Last year, Amy Jo – a pupil at North Cheshire Jewish Primary School – came up with an idea to collate a book of jokes from famous people.
All the proceeds raised from the books, which were sold in south Manchester, will go to Comic Relief and her Cheadle-based school.
Former prime minister Gordon Brown, comedian Dawn French, author Anthony Horowitz, chef Gordon Ramsay and ex-Manchester City manager Mark Hughes were just some of the contributors to Amy’s book of laughs.
Amy Jo, together with mum Gill, started writing letters and sent them to celebrities and politicians.
Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks also contributed a joke and Amy Jo met him on a visit to Manchester.
She recently presented a cheque for £6,329.52 to North Cheshire headteacher Jackie Savage and governor Caroline Fraser. The money will go towards buying new IT equipment.
And Amy Jo went to London, where she presented a cheque for £6,327.22 to Karl Reynolds, Comic Relief’s head of fundraising.
